At SustainAbility, we value transparency. This could not be more true than regarding your time and money.
SustainAbility operates by billing you directly as an "out-of-network" provider. That means you pay at the time of service and we do not go through insurance companies.
We operate this way because we cannot provide the type of high-quality care and individualized treatment that is best for you at the rates insurance companies are willing to pay for private practice.
Unlike the industry standard, this allows you to spend the entire session getting advanced assessment and treatment from your therapist. That way you can get better faster and require fewer visits.
Depending on your medical needs, deductibles, and co-pays, direct billing may work out in your favor in the long run. A few months of traditional therapy 2-3 times per week could cost you thousands of dollars, despite being covered by insurance. This is even more true if your treatment from SustainAbility means you can avoid expensive appointments with specialists, imaging studies (CT scan/MRI), injections, surgery, or medications.
If your insurance plan has an HSA, you can use this to pay for our services.
Reimbursement for physical therapy outside of the context of post-traumatic injury or post-surgery (that is, for confusing or chronic pain conditions) is very similar to the problems that occur regarding insurance reimbursement within the mental health professions. To gain a deeper understanding of why professionals would leave insurance networks, here is an incredibly well-done article by Pro-Publica on the topic: "Why I Left the Network"
Movement health is similar to mental health. Insurance will pay for psychological services when a psychiatrist has given you a diagnosis or you have an issue like depression/anxiety that becomes so severe you are debilitated by it. However, many people choose to proactively pursue direct-pay therapy to prevent further decline and to function better in their lives. You can invest in your well-being with SustainAbility in much the same way without needing to wait for a diagnosis or debility.
